I'm sad :(

By now most everyone should have heard about the bombings in Kampala on Sunday. While the death toll is not as high as the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, for me this is a lot closer to home.

I knew no one in New York City, knew no one from New York City, nor had I ever been to New York City. I know people in Kampala (none who to my knowledge were at either location on Sunday night thankfully), from Kampala, I go there frequently and eat Ethiopian food there as much as I can. Although we don't live in Kampala, it is a lot more "home" to me than New York city ever was or will be.

I am so thankful that this explosion did not occur at "our" Ethiopian restaurant (which we ate at last Wednesday) as we've been frequenting the place for several years now and know the waiters and waitresses. The Ethiopian restaurant where it did occur is just up the road from "ours" and was a bit more high end.

I've always thought of Uganda as an out-of-the-way place that is no threat to anyone, so it is sad to see international terrorists taking the lives of innocent people here as well. To them, Uganda is yet just another "infidel" country.

So sad.

  1. I'm so sorry, Grace. I immediately thought of you because I knew you loved the Ethiopian restaurant. I knew you wouldn't be there in the middle of the night with the kids, but I'm glad it wasn't "your" restaurant.

I'm so sad too. Our friends from church are leaving today for Uganda and needlesstosay, their wives who will be staying home are a bit uneasy.

I will be praying for protection over Uganda, and especially the Hallands.

    Love in Jesus,
    Amy

  2. Grace,
We are sorry to hear what happened in Kampala. Glad to hear you and your family are safe. I was able to call my friends from Mengo Hospital and find out that they were safe as well. We are praying for the ones who are still injured and for the families/friends who lost loved ones. We will also pray for you.
And we thank you for your help - we are in contact with Victoria's partner Jonan!

  3. It is sad indeed. When I saw the pictures of the Ethiopian restaurant I recognized it well. We had eaten there with our little ones.
