Frankie's first Sunday School experience!

Mr Franklin attended Sunday School for the first time last week! I've held him back for eight months, due to his tendency to become overwhelmed and disassociate, but figured that he was ready now. And I was right!!! Of course, it helps that not only could he go with his sister (who LOVED finally having her brother go with her!) but that his Granny was the teacher and his mom was there goofing off with a puppet, as well!

Attentively listening to his teacher/Granny, alongside his big (very proud) sister

Dang could his Granny/Teacher ever crack some good jokes!

Granny from Montana is teaching Sunday School for the next several months that she's here.

Granny is also utilizing the beautiful Betty Luken flannel graphs that she brought the first time she came to Uganda, and will be teaching all of the teachers how to use them. What a great tool these are! Granny uses them to teach American children in Montana every week, and they are a hit there as well. Truly a universal teaching aid!

All of the four classes were combined last week but it didn't matter - they LOVED the flannel graphs and Granny teaching them! We thought her accent might be difficult for the kids to understand but they did fine.

She also brought puppets which the kids really liked! Teacher Angela and I each had one and I managed to really entertain myself. Put a puppet on my hand and all the smart ass comments (and trust me, there are a LOT) that I think in my head come right out of my puppets mouth! The kids didn't get half of it but the teachers sure did :)

Couldn't resist! I love Granny's face in this picture!

Too bad this is blurry, but I loved reverent Frankie, bowing his head in prayer :) He did SO well, even with the combined class and large number of kids!! I feel that we set him up for Sunday School success and it WORKED! You the bomb Frankie, you the bomb!

  1. We use those Betty Luken flannel boards in our Sunday School too! It looks like you are having a great time with Granny. She's no sit-on-the-couch visitor, huh? Fort building, gardening, Sunday School teaching... I'm so impressed.

I miss seeing all of you (and I'm really bummed I missed your puppet show! :) )

    Love in Jesus,
    Amy
