This has come at a time in my life when, um, I really need it. I've probably always needed it, but I really do now (burnout anyone?!) and my kids are old enough to occupy themselves unsupervised around the stables while I ride. So far they haven't showed much interest in riding themselves and honestly, I haven't pushed it. It is great to ride with other adults and not to worry about them, especially since we like to move along at a fairly good clip.
I feel truly blessed and like God is truly looking out for me, as horses in Uganda are very few and far between. If you do find them they are more in a business environment and not in a family setting. I love that I have been paired with one horse in particular that I can develop a relationship with and that these are well loved and cared for horses - not business endeavors! It's also nice to ride with people who have even more dogs than I do :). Makes me feel almost normal!
Some of the girls, all getting a drink before they go out to pasture
My beautiful Choco stead, while out on a ride
Water trough also doubles as a swimming pool for the stable dogs
She is a bit of a character. Can be a bit pissy when you are on the ground but once you are in the saddle she will do anything - and in a halter!
I like this horse. She is not a super friendly horse at first, but is slowly warming up to me. Once you are on her back she will do about anything for you and is very steady. I haven't ridden for ten years, and am ten years older (!), so wanted someone steady to ride. She has lots of go and will pull enough moves to keep the ride interesting!
We took the Zemba farm dog and her puppies to the clinic today, for vaccinations and baths. Frankie was a big help with the puppies!
Ella willingly assisted David as he worked on his old dog, Lawrence
When we went to drop the dogs back at the farm we got to see these THREE HOUR OLD piglets! I was rather amazed at how vigorous and active they were. It's amazing to see how God created animal's instincts to survive.
And this? This is when you KNOW that it is time to separate the baby rabbits from their parents. This is TOM, the father rabbit, underneath that pile of baby bunnies! Haaa! He was totally overwhelmed.
And Freya, committing the ultimate faux pau - Bridger's face says it all. We DO NOT share dog beds! She is clueless :) .
God is good. I thank Him for the great life He has given me in Uganda and all the blessings He continues to bless me with.
